Updates, random music stuff, etc.

John here. It's definitely been a while but I'm finally back on!  Everything has been going well, and my interest in music is increasing far beyond what I have expected.  After listening to Metallica's first album (Kill em all) I've had the desire to now pick up electric guitar in addition to the bass, tuba, and trombone.  I then realized how many other songs I loved the guitar in.  The precise solos of "Kick the Chair" by Megadeth, the smooth and classic but still metal riffs of Iron Maiden, and the amazing musicality of Dream Theater, especially "A Change of Seasons."  It's amazing some of the talent you find in metal music as well as some of the people.  Most people think of Metal music as satanic, evil, and violent.  I'm Mormon. I'm not satanic, evil, or violent but I do listen to metal music.  It's true that a lot of metal bands are evil, but that's not what I listen to.  People are very ignorant.  I enjoy some songs by Megadeth for example.  Some would think that Megadeth is an evil band, but they haven't done their homework.  If they had, they would know that both Frontman Dave Mustaine and Bassist David Ellefson are Lutheran.  They have families, and they stand by their beliefs.  Ultimately, metal has its fair share of people that aren't too great, but at the same time, has some incredible people and personalities. Ellefson and Mustaine are just one example of this, and I always love discovering people's stories.

River Rafting Trip!

It was all packed with a ton of fun, with the highlight being a 2 and a half hour fiver rafting trip down the snake river including punching waves (putting all of your weight against them and take them right in the face), relaxing, and swimming through a rapid.  John made it safely past the rapid, but I got sunk by a small whirlpool and used all of my strength to push out of it.  I could have easily hit a rock, because I went down the rapid on the left side (the dangerous side), but luckily I didn't.  Instead, I bobbed up and down trying to breathe while being engulfed in waves several different times.  After I was out, I relaxed on my back, only to realize that I was in an eddy and had to swim as hard as I could to the boat, even though I was drained of strength.  If you want to read more on this story, just check out mine or John's Facebook page to find more details about praying and receiving answers of comfort and safety.  It was a blast and we're both so glad to have had an experienced guide with us.

Ellis Family Reunion 2012

So here's basically how the whole schedule went down.  On Friday, we went to the Park City City Park (haha) for mountain man breakfast and pancakes.  That's where we all gathered and met up.  We played some frisbee and soccer, so it was a lot of fun.  We had our own picnic lunches packed so we ate those at sort of anytime we wanted to.  Then we packed up and went to get some frozen yogurt at the grocery store. We enjoyed that, and then we walked around main street and saw a lot of the stores there.  We then went to a different park and played more soccer on really nice fields.  We waited for everyone to show up, and the plan was to watch some old slideshows and have dessert, but of course, the power went out.  Everyone just kind of left as they wished.  On Saturday we all met up at the same park and fulfilled our plans from the night before.  We went home for awhile, and then went to Keith's house for pizza and family trivia.  Today, we went to the cemetary in Logan where Great-Grandpa Ellis was buried, and finally, we went to the bench where Jeanie passed away and had some lunch.  That concluded the reunion, and everyone said all of their good-byes.  We drove home, and now here we are, posting about it. Thanks for the fun time Ellis's!
